- A quick design for those
people who don't have the time, money or space for a full racing cockpit
-
- I
thought I would draft up a quick design for those folks who would really like
to have some kind of racing cockpit for Forza Motorsport 2's release, but for
one reason or other, it's not going to work out for them. Myself, I own a good
sized townhouse (about 2000 square ft) and even though I finished the basement
this summer, I don't have room for a full racing cockpit in my media room (or
so my wife tells me).
-
- I'll
start out by saying I'm not a handy person, I don't own a MIG welder and
probably never plan to. I know it looks shacky but it works well.
-
- I know I'm not alone so here goes. I hope this helps
someone:
-
- 1. I started out with a pretty common wooden TV
table. This isn't really important if you can get a solid piece of wood
that's larger than the footprint of your wheel. In my case I'll be using
the MS wireless wheel.
-
-
- 2. I stripped off the legs and the fasteners and cut some
wood, the measurements are at the bottom. I started with the green
pieces and attached them to the braces that were already attached to the table
top. Next I attached the vertical pieces, ensuring that the table would
be at the right height once it was finished. Third, the bottom supports,
stop it from rocking and provide good stability as they actually go under the
couch. Finally, I attached the bottom brace to try to prevent wear and
tear on the other joints and to try to stop the twisting of the frame.
-

-
- 3. Here's the final product set up. As you can see the bottom legs
actually go under the couch for added support when in use as a wheel or can
be hidden in the same way if you need a spare table for snacks or something:
-
-
- Measurements:
- Top slab: 19" by 15"
- Green Braces: 2 pieces each are 12.5" long by
2.5" wide by 1.5" deep
- Vertical pieces: 4 pieces each are 22.5" (although
you'll want to tailor this to the best height for you the chair your are
using) by 1.5" by 1.5 "
- Bottom supports: 17" long by 1.5" deep and
3.5" wide (this could be shorter depending on the wood you have)
- Bottom brace: 17" long by 1" by
1"
